Kinshasa, November 3rd, 2026 (CPA).- The development of a draft guide for collaboration between the media, public institutions, civil society, researchers and the private sector to strengthen transparency in forest governance in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is at the centre of a multi-stakeholder workshop that opened on Tuesday in Kinshasa.
“Our objective is to jointly develop the preliminary draft of a guide for collaboration between the media, public institutions, civil society, researchers and the private sector in order to strengthen transparency in forest governance in the DRC. This document should enable investigative journalism to become a genuine driver of change and transparency in the sector,” said Alfredo Prince Ntumba, President of Environews-RDC.
According to Mr. Ntumba, the meeting will not merely provide an opportunity for debate, but will also assess the role of information and investigative journalism in shedding light on public policies and public opinion.
It will also examine institutional accountability and ways of developing critical thinking in response to environmental challenges and disinformation.
“No fair, accountable and sustainable forest governance can take place behind closed doors in the face of the unprecedented pressures affecting the world’s second-largest tropical forest area,” he added.
He pointed out that, during the proceedings, media reports on land-use conflicts would be transformed into decision-making tools and civic education materials to combat disinformation.
For her part, Afy Malungu, Programme Officer at the Pulitzer Center, stressed that her organization’s work on forest governance would benefit from moving away from one-off events towards a sustainable collaboration model, enabling journalists to provide verified information.
The workshop is being held from November 3 to 4 at the initiative of Environews-RDC, with financial support from the Pulitzer Center. ACP/
