Kananga, November 3rd, 2026 (CPA).- Seventeen erosion sites are threatening the 220-kilometre Kananga–Kalamba-Mbuji road in Kasaï Central Province, in the central part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the provincial governor warned on Tuesday during his inspection tour.
“Although the Kananga–Kalamba-Mbuji road is still in good condition, the emergence of 17 erosion sites is threatening its very existence,” said provincial Governor Moïse Kambulu.“These massive erosion sites could destroy the road if no precautions are taken.
In that case, we would be left with nothing but tears and the road section would become impassable,” he added.
The head of the provincial executive instructed all stakeholders involved in the construction and modernization of the road to take this situation seriously and take urgent action.
Kambulu also expressed concern over the slowdown in the pace of the works, with only 28 kilometres of asphalt laid out of an initial 60-kilometre section.
He called for an acceleration of the work in order to implement President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision of opening up and developing this area located in the central part of the DRC. ACP/
