Security and socio-economic issues in Sud Kivu at the center of discussions at the Prime Minister’s Office

Kinshasa, July 22nd, 2021 (CPA).- Security, socio-economic and humanitarian issues in Sud Kivu province were at the center of discussions on Tuesday evening between the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde and the governor of Sud Kivu, Theo Ngwabidje.

At the end of this interview, Governor Ngwabidge indicated that Sud Kivu is facing the activism of armed groups in its southern part, adding that the situation is under control, in particular in Minembwe and in the high plateau thanks to the Armed Forces of DRC (FARDC).

« We discussed with the Prime Minister on the new program for demobilization, disarmament and community recovery and stabilization (DDRC) which has been validated through an ordinance and which is a response today to security problems in our province », he said before urging those who evolve within armed groups to seize the opportunity offered by the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, to leave these groups and get involved in a peace process where they can be reintegrated in socio-economic life, through the community DDRC program.

For Theo Ngwabidje, members of armed groups who do not surrender will be neutralized.

In addition to security issues, the governor of Sud Kivu claimed to have submitted to the Head of Government questions related to social problems and those relating to basic infrastructure in his province.

« We made the advocacy on the rehabilitation of the national road number 5 which connects Bukavu-Uvira-Fizi, the road number 2 Bukavu-Mwenga passing by Walungu as well as that connecting Bukavu and Shabunda », he explained.

The rehabilitation of these roads, said Governor Ngwabidje, will make it possible to open up Bukavu by boosting its economy and providing employment for former combatants.

Governor Ngwabidge also said he had received assurances from the Prime Minister on the merits of the rehabilitation of Kavumu national airport. ACP / Indombe
