Kinshasa, February 4, 2026 (ACP).- The new Secretary General for Sports of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) called on his constituents to work together to promote sports in the country on Wednesday at the Tata Raphaël stadium in Kinshasa during the handover of power between him and his predecessor. “Together, hand in hand, in unison, for the promotion of sports and leisure in the DRC,” said Dr. Alain Mboko Iyeti, the new Secretary General for Sports.
Handover of power between old acquaintances
According to Dr. Alain, after having worked together in the health sector, he now finds himself at a crossroads with one of his old acquaintances, not for a long period, but rather for a brief moment, that of the handover of power. “We are replacing a senior colleague with whom we have worked for more than ten years and who has done a tremendous job,” he said, adding that he intends to continue the work already done by Body Ilonga, whose expertise he will not hesitate to call upon if necessary, In conclusion to his speech, the new head of the sports and leisure administration in the DRC paid tribute to God and to the country’s highest authorities, namely the Head of State, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister, for their impetus in reforming the administration, while praising the international influence promoted by the Minister in charge of Sports.
Body Elongo returns to the fold
Coming from the Ministry of Health, Body Ilonga spent three years at the General Secretariat for Sports, replacing the dean of secretaries-general, Barthélémy Okito, and serving under sports ministers Jean Claude Kabulo and Didier Budimbu. “First of all, I thank God for the past three years in this passionate world of sports,” said Body Ilonga to the large audience of sports administration officials and executives. For him, in terms of results, beyond the good results achieved here and there, not everything has been rosy. “Despite the war raging in the east of the country, our time at the ministry has also seen difficult moments, following the strike by officials.” « The staff strike was a difficult time. Thank you to the Deputy Prime Minister for the Civil Service, who listened attentively to the cries and groans of discontent, by signing the much-applauded new salary scale, “But we are waiting for it to materialize,” concluded Body Ilonga, who believes that, after his departure, the biggest beneficiaries will be all the agents of his former administration, whom he has urged to work closely with his successor. « We are forgiving of any frustrations under my management. Our entire career has been dedicated to health. We were transferred to sports, which we accepted with good sportsmanship. But now we are returning to health. We will remain open to any difficulties, » he concluded. As a reminder, before landing at the Ministry of Sports, Dr. Alain Mboko Iyeti came from the humanitarian affairs sector.
