DRC: ‘Staying in Linafoot: Motema Pembe’s battle’ (President-elect)

Kinshasa, Sept. 1st, 2026 (CPA).- The new president of the Executive Committee of Motema Pembe of Kinshasa, elected on Tuesday at the Extraordinary General Meeting held in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has affirmed his intention to take steps to ensure his team remains in the National Football League (Linafoot) for the next season.  “Now that I have been elected to head the new Executive Committee of DC Motema Pembe, the very first step I will take is to ensure our team remains in the Division 1 of the National Football League (Linafoot),” has declared Olivier Bierlaire, the newly elected president of the Executive Committee of Motema Pembe of Kinshasa. In his view, this move is driven by the fact that Motema Pembe found itself in this situation following the deduction of 24 points – points earned on the pitch but withheld from the Congolese Football Federation (Fecofa) due to financial issues with third parties, on the instructions of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). On the issue of cohesion, Olivier Bierlaire has issued a strong call for the sacred unity of all the club’s supporters: “I am sending a message of unity to all the Daringmens. From this moment on, we must all pull together in unison. There can be no more talk of clans or factions – whether pro-Bierlaire, pro-Kasembele, linked to the foundation or to the Board of Directors. The only banner that must unite us is the DCMP and its historic colors: green and white,” he has emphasized. In a stirring appeal, he has hen added: “This Assembly marks the end of many long years of strife and division during which the team has been cruelly torn apart. I call on everyone to show restraint and goodwill so that we can stand united behind the DCMP, which remains our one and only common ground.”

Dirty laundry now washed within the family

According to Olivier Bierlaire, the meeting on September 1st has enabled the entire Imanian family to wash their dirty laundry in public, whilst settling their differences amicably and once and for all. As proof of this reconciliation, two members of the out-going committee have joined the new management team. For his part, Paul Kasembele has been promoted to the rank of member of the Board of Directors. This is a strong signal that serves as a reminder of a fundamental truth: Motema Pembe is one single family for all. From now on, it is time for a united front. All supporters are called upon to come together and cheer in unison to support the team’s fresh start.

DCMP: a major project in need of rebuilding

In conclusion, Olivier Bierlaire has made a clear-eyed assessment: the Daring Club Motema Pembe (DCMP) is currently a vast project in need of a complete overhaul. “We face an immense challenge where we will have to tackle several fronts at once. One thing is certain: we bear the heavy responsibility of rebuilding Motema Pembe from the ground up. Our aim is to restore it to the top, amongst the greatest clubs in Kinshasa and the country, and this will only be achieved with everyone’s support,” he has promised. A former iconic figure at the helm of the team during the 1980s, Olivier Bierlaire intends to draw on his experience and organizational skills to turn the club around and restore its former glory.
