This operation responded to the foreign currency liquidity needs of the banking system, in the context of the cyclical needs observed after the end-of-year festivities, » it is read in a statement from the BCC. According to the source, a close monitoring of the situation on the foreign exchange market reveals, as of January 10th, certain tensions on the parallel segment, attributable to speculation linked to negative expectations on the part of some economic operators. To this end, the BCC has sought to reassure the public that its current level of international reserves gives it a robust and continuous capacity for action on the foreign exchange market, while also enabling it to provide significant coverage for imports of goods and services. It has, in addition announced that a sale of foreign currencies is planned for Monday January 12th, while inviting economic operators and the public to continue their operations in a climate of confidence and to favour formal banking channels to meet their foreign currency needs, in accordance with the regulatory framework in force.
