Implementation of UN sanctions regime in DRC discussed in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, October 5th, 2026 (CPA).- The implementation of the United Nations Security Council sanctions regime in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was discussed on Monday in Kinshasa during talks between the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and a UN Group of Experts, according to a statement received by CPA. “The discussions focused on the mandate of the Group of Experts, particularly monitoring the implementation of the sanctions regime established by the Security Council, as well as its investigative and documentation work relating to the security situation in eastern DRC,” the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. According to the source, the discussions took place during a meeting granted by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs to the United Nations Group of Experts tasked with supporting the Security Council Sanctions Committee concerning the DRC. The discussions also focused, the statement added, on following up on recommendations contained in various United Nations reports, particularly those concerning armed groups, their support and financing networks, as well as dynamics that could fuel instability and undermine ongoing peace efforts. The UN sanctions regime concerning the DRC was established in the context of the armed conflicts affecting the eastern part of the country. It is aimed in particular at preventing armed groups and individuals fueling violence from gaining access to resources and certain means of financing.
