Kinshasa, April 13th, 2021 (CPA) – The development of the African continent is linked to that of science, technology and innovation, declared the President of the Republic and current President of AU, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, during the launch, on Sunday, by videoconference, of the 8th edition of the African week of science and technology under the theme: « Arts, culture and heritage: levers to build the Africa we want ».
The Head of State who addressed the pupils and students of DRC, in particular and of Africa, in general, indicated that there is a need to make accessible, to the greatest number, the sciences and technology.
« That’s the real importance of this science and technology week. We must advocate strengthening the confidence of our populations in our ability to build a better continent and prepare for the future « , underlined the Head of State.
Program of activities for the African science and technology week in Kinshasa
In addition, the program of activities for this 8th edition of the African week of science and technology provides in Kinshasa, scientific animation for students on Monday April 12th, 2021 at Lycee Liziba and on Tuesday April 13th, 2021 at College Boboto in Kinshasa, the cyber security awareness workshop, the protection of the 2nd episode of the “Science in the city” series and the screening of the film “Robe de pixels”.
Another activity is scheduled for April 14th, 2021 at Pullman hotel in Kinshasa/ Gombe.
A conference is also scheduled for Wednesday April 14th, 2021 at Pullman Hotel in Gombe municipality and will be moderated by the panel of experts who support the President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi in the accomplishment of his mandate at the head of the African Union. A workshop on hairdressing with artist Nadeen Mateky and another on “Introduction to the programming of embedded systems” will also be held on Thursday April 15th in Goma, on April 17th, 2021, the date of the end of this week in the same town.
The 7th edition of the African science and technology week which took place in 2020, it is recalled, took place in a particular global context, characterized by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking about this African week of science and technology, the Cameroonian anthropologist, sociologist and theologian, Jean Marc Ela, had suggested in his book “Africa in the age of knowledge: science, society and power” published by editions L’Harmattan, that “instituting an African science week in each country on the continent would speed up the process of training creators and users of science.
