Can-2025: CAF promises sanctions for those responsible for the disturbances during the Morocco-Senegal final

Rabat, January 19th, 2026 (CPA). –The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has promised sanctions for those responsible for the disturbances that occurred in the final of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations Can Morocco 2025, played between Morocco and Senegal on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, in a statement published Monday on its official website. “CAF is reviewing all the footage and will refer the matter to the relevant authorities so that appropriate measures can be taken against those found guilty,” the statement said.  The governing body of African football has condemned this behavior, which it considers unacceptable: “CAF condemns the unacceptable behavior of certain players and officials during the final of the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 between Morocco and Senegal, inappropriate behavior during matches, in particular that directed at the refereeing team or the match organizers,” it said.

As a reminder, the Morocco-Senegal final took place amid intense tension. After a first half that already had tears and saliva flowing in the stands, things came to a head on the pitch with a goal disallowed for Senegal for a push on Hakami, and a penalty awarded to Morocco after VAR review. The most dramatic moment was when the Senegalese coach asked his players to leave the field, which they did for about 15 minutes, plunging the spectators into confusion. Immediately afterwards, Senegalese fans began to descend onto the field. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is currently reviewing the footage.
