Kinshasa, August 17th, 2026 (CPA).- The mentoring of young people in the transmission of musical expertise has illustrated the willingness of the singer Koffi Olomide from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in order to ensure the continuity of his band in anticipation of his retirement, according to comments made by the artist in a video viewed on Monday by the CPA. “Even if Koffi as individual is in retirement, he will not be completely retired. Not only I write songs for Cindy, but I also regularly write them for young people. There are those who approach me for collaborations (…)”, has declared the Congolese singer before the DRC’s student parliament, emphasising that, as part of this initiative, he has appointed the artist Cindy Le Cœur as the spearhead of the next generation in Quartier Latin International.
To propel her to headliner status, Koffi Olomide has assured that he would put his experience at the singer’s disposal to make her a major figure of Congolese rumba. “But it’s mainly because I really want Cindy to become the queen of music, and that will happen,” he has promised. Faithful to his role as a mentor, Koffi Olomide has unveiled last Saturday, to accompany Cindy Le Cœur, clips for ‘Mwana Nduele’, ‘Fiana’, ‘Calebasse’ and ‘Embonga’. These songs are from the album ‘Suprema Cy’, marketed at the end of 2025, it has been reported.
Regarding his agenda, following the recent concert at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium, the leader of the Quartier Latin International orchestra has announced a concert to mark the end of holidays on September 5th, at the Galerie La Fontaine. The artist has stated that this show aims to repay his debt to his fans, following a long period of absence from the music scene in the Congolese capital.
Cindy Le Cœur, the successor designated by Koffi Olomide
Cindy Le Cœur, whose real name is Candy Nkunku, is trained at the National Institute of Arts (INA) in Kinshasa, where she has undertook musical training and made her start in the Waasa research group, made up of INA students. Having long remained in the shadow of Kool Matopé, she has joined Quartier Latin International in 2007. She has
revealed herself to the public attention through her active involvement in the album ‘Bord Ezanga Kombo’, at a time marked by the successive departures of Fally Ipupa, Ferré
Gola, Montana Kamenga, Lola Muana, Gipson Butukondolo, Soleil Wanga and so many other musicians. She has also participated in several other albums by the group in the years that followed.
