DRC crisis: the war of narratives at the heart of a conference in Paris

Kinshasa, October 5th, 2026 (CPA).- The war of narratives, identities and memories will be the focus of a conference on the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, scheduled for October 17th  in Paris, France, according to a statement from the BNK Institute received Monday by CPA in Kinshasa.

“After a first edition held in October 2025, this second gathering seeks to explore a dimension of the Congolese crisis that has received too little attention: the war of narratives, identities, memories and consciousness,” the statement said. Held under the theme “Historical Falsifications and Identity and Spiritual Manipulations,” the statement indicated that this second edition will examine the narrative dimension of the conflict, which the organizers refer to as the “Bantu Genocide.” “How can history be instrumentalized to serve territorial claims? How do identities become political and military tools?” the source asked. Around Dyana Kamanda, founder of the BNK Institute, the discussions will be organized into two sessions. The first, devoted to historical falsifications and identity manipulation, is expected to bring together researchers Kerwin Mayizo and Dieudonné Kwebe-Kimpele. The second, focusing on spirituality, memory and the war of consciousness, will bring together Mabaya Lembo, Momi M’Buze, Ytal Bena Lumpungu and Isaac Mpia.

According to the same statement, the conference will be held at the Institute of International and Strategic Relations (IRIS), located at 2 bis rue Mercœur, in Paris’ 11th arrondissement.
