Football in Kinshasa: postponement of the elective assembly of Motema Pembe to September 30th

Kinshasa, September 17th, 2025 (CPA).- Motema Pembe of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has announced on Wednesday during an interview with the CPA that its Elective Assembly, initially scheduled for Wednesday September 17th, has been postponed to Tuesday September 30th for organisational reasons.

‘The Extraordinary General Assembly of DC Motema Pembe of Kinshasa, initially scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, has been postponed to the 30th, of the same month of September for organisational reasons,’ has declared Olivier Bierlaire, one of the co-founders of this green and white team from Kinshasa. The source gave the following explanation for the postponement: ‘The harmonisation of the electoral list relating to the members of this Extraordinary Elective General Assembly was the first factor that led to the postponement of these meetings,’ he has explained, adding a second reason that was just as valid as the first. ‘In accordance with the electoral calendar, the report of the Electoral Commission, which is very important, was first supposed to be made available to the Co-foundation and the Board of Directors of the club. This is very important and essential for the preparation of these meetings, scheduled for Wednesday September 17th,’ he has explained. Thus, on Tuesday, during an evaluation meeting between the Co-foundation and the Electoral Commission, it was noted that the non-refundable deposit required of all candidates for any position, in order to ensure the credibility of all parties, had not been paid. And this observation has been valid for the majority of applicants.

Therefore, in view of these two key arguments, and in order to ensure the normal continuation of the electoral process, the stakeholders have agreed to postpone this Extraordinary General Assembly. While waiting for the meeting on September 30th, Olivier Bierlaire, in his function as spokesman of the co-foundation of the Club of the Immaculate of Kinshasa, has announced that 28 candidates had confirmed their candidacies by their physical presence at this meeting, in accordance with the customs and traditions of the green and white family of the capital of DRC. Nevertheless, according to Olivier Bierlaire, the candidates are far from rushing to the position of general secretary of the team. CPA/
