Kinshasa, September 18th, 2025 (CPA/Xinhua).- The Madagascan government has approved the organisation of the Southern African regional summit on anticipatory actions in Madagascar, scheduled for October, according to a report on Thursday by the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Initiated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations, this event will bring together representatives from academia, research institutes, NGOs, governments, as well as technical and financial partners.
It aims to develop and consolidate mechanisms for the prevention and anticipation of climate and humanitarian crises. Anticipatory action consists of implementing concrete measures to reduce the humanitarian impact of a hazard before it occurs or before its most severe effects are felt. Southern Africa faces multiple cumulative threats, including climatic and hydro meteorological hazards and epidemics.
These cross-cutting and cross-border risks require enhanced cooperation and coordinated responses.
