Likasi, September 15th, 2025 (CPA).- On Monday, the Minister in charge of Justice has assessed prison conditions in Buluo and Boma prisons in Likasi, a city in the province of Haut-Katanga in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during his inspection visit.
‘I came to assess the functioning of these prisons in the province and to see for myself the living conditions in prison in order to draw up an objective report and propose solutions to the government,’ has said Guillaume Ngefa, Minister in charge of State for Justice and Keeper of the Seals. Buluwo Prison, established in 1954 with an initial capacity of 600 inmates, now has 561, according to the report presented to Minister of State Ngefa by Jean Kisimba, director of the prison, who lamented the lack of logistical resources, particularly transportation. The situation at Boma Prison was also presented to the minister responsible. According to its director, it houses 320 inmates, including ten women and 310 men, of whom 103 have been convicted. The Minister in charge of State for Justice and Keeper of the Seals was accompanied on this visit by Henry Mungomba, Mayor of Likasi, the President of the High Court of that jurisdiction, the Public Prosecutor, the Military Auditor and the mayors of the municipalities concerned.
