Kinshasa, September 15th, 2025 (CPA).-African leaders, particularly those from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), were called upon on Monday to promote a positive image of the African continent by highlighting its potential and resources, according to the founder of the Africa Economic Forum (AEF) in an interview with CPA. « Africa is too often portrayed as a poor continent, dependent on international aid, when in fact it is rich in energy, mining and agricultural resources that are essential for the future of the world. It is time to break with this image of a continent that needs assistance and to mobilise our demographic, cultural and technological resources in line with our strengths and potential, » has said Dr Billy Issa, Founder and President of the Africa Economic Forum (AEF). According to him, this reductive view does not reflect the reality of African peoples. ‘Africa is an indispensable player with immense resources. It is also a key provider of solutions to major global challenges, particularly in the agricultural, environmental, energy and technological fields. The continent’s youth and creativity are major assets for innovation,’ he has continued. Dr Issa also emphasised the need to deconstruct the idea that Africa is a ‘problem to be solved’, arguing instead that the continent is ‘a reservoir of answers’. However, in order to change the global perception of Africa, Dr Issa recommended that African leaders prioritise partnerships based on equality and mutual benefit. The AEF President called for a complete overhaul of the continent’s image. ‘Africa is not a continent in need. It is a key player in major global dynamics and must be recognised as such,’ he has concluded.
