Kinshasa, September 18th, 2025 (CPA).– The Woman’s resilience in literature has been praised by a writer on Thursday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during the major literary event themed: ‘Women’s voices, echoes of resilience: when literature builds peace’. “The resilience clearly comes through women as well as men. But women are very important because they educate and pass on the message to children, from one generation to another, given everything they have had to go through in the past, » has declared Fabienne Zutterman, author and writer.
« I think that resilience also requires acceptance before you can move forward. And acceptance is really the key that gives you access to building something new, » she has added. Ms Zutterman, who spoke on ‘storytelling to build and bring people together: the delicate balance between hopes and realities in fiction’, has explained that our reality can also be seen in its best light. There are indeed those sublime moments when reality far exceeds any fiction. I think it is very important for young Congolese authors to focus on history because it is also history that builds the future of humanity and the country, » she has concluded.
Ms Zutterman, author of the autobiographical novel entitled ‘L’Afrique pour se perdre’ (Africa to get lost in), used her mother’s diary when she lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1970s. She considers her novel to be a testimony; alluding to the little girl she once was while drawing parallels between the child and her mother.
