UNIDO ready to support the DRC in establishing an accelerated industrialization program

Kinshasa, April 5th, 2021 (CPA) – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is ready to support the DRC in establishing industrial strategies that can boost a diversified economy based on local transformation likely to create a lot of jobs, said UNIDO Regional Director for Central Africa, Jean B. Bakole, after a hearing that Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde granted him on Friday at the Government House. « UNIDO, in collaboration with the new Government which will have to be put in place, will develop an accelerated industrialization program as well as strategies for the local transformation of the DRC’s natural resources », he said.

Drawing on its experience at the international level, he added, UNIDO is ready to support the DRC in establishing industrial strategies that can boost a diversified economy based on local transformation capable of creating many jobs.

For the director of UNIDO, the exchanges with his host were focused on the appropriate strategies to engage the country in the transformation and diversification of its economy. « It is a question of making the most of these national resources in order to create wealth which will be able to generate jobs », he stressed.

The Prime Minister insisted on the vision given by the Head of State, that of committing products from Congolese soil to local processing to meet local needs and exports abroad, especially in the context of the free trade area at the African level, he continued, he continued, he continued, he continued.

The UNIDO director remains confident in an economic paradigm shift. According to him, the DRC will no longer be a country that waits to consume foreign products but a nation that will begin to produce, transform local products and bring them to an optimal level of quality so that they are competitive on the market level local and international.

Mr. Bakole maintains that he noted the Prime Minister’s commitment to lead the country with a new economic strategy that will not be based only on minerals but also on agribusiness to increase the country’s capacities in terms of wealth and jobs in the country benefit of the people.
