The Minister of Employment undertakes to support the actions of CISTEMA

Kinshasa May 31st, 2022 (CPA).- The Minister of Employment, Labor and Social Welfare, Claudine Ndusi, undertook, on Saturday, to coordinate and support the actions of the Interministerial and Sectoral Commission for the fight against the labor of children in artisanal mines (CISTEMA) in order to eliminate all forms of child labor in all sectors of the economic life of the DRC.

Minister Ndusi said this during a meeting with CISTEMA members ahead of the International Week for the Elimination of Child Labor to be held June 10-17, 2021.

The president of CISTEMA, Joseph Ikoli indicated that the commission came to receive instructions and guidance from the Minister of Employment regarding this crucial issue of the elimination of child labor in all sectors of economic life. .

He stressed that the focus was mainly in the mining sector given that there was a damning report in 2016 describing the working conditions of children in the DRC. « This is how the government quickly set up this commission, » he said.

In addition, the Secretary General of Employment and Labor, Angélique Inzun Okomba declared that CISTEMA reminded the Minister that the national action plan that had been drawn up has come to an end and it is imperative to revitalize it.

The National Commission for the Fight against the Worst Forms of Child Labor (CN-PFTE), the National Promotion and Social Service Fund (FNPSS) and experts from the Ministries of Justice, Mines and Social Affairs also took part in this meeting.
